Underwater Filters

Underwater pond filters

Underwater filters sit on the pond floor, out of sight. There's no external filter box to hide, which makes them a simple choice for small ponds, preformed ponds and water features.

How they work

A pump draws water through foam or media inside the filter body, trapping debris and housing beneficial bacteria. Some models combine pump, filter and UVC in one unit, and many can drive a small fountain at the same time.

Who they suit

  • Small garden and patio ponds.
  • Preformed ponds and water features with limited space around them.
  • Ponds with a light fish load.

For koi or heavily stocked ponds, choose a pressure or flow-through filter with more biological capacity.

Cleaning tip

Rinse the foam in a bucket of pond water, not tap water, so you keep the bacteria colonies alive. Replacement foams are in filter accessories.
